On Friday, August 30, 2019, I woke up for work planning for a normal workday. When getting out of bed around 6 am, I "thought" I had wet my pants. The fluid continued as I showered and got ready for work. It finally stopped and I headed out the door for work...not thinking much of it...I guess I was in denial to think it was my water breaking. I was fine at work other than my side hurting and feeling like I constantly needed to use the restroom. Around 9:30 am (that morning at school), I stood up to take my students to the restroom and when I stood up...a huge gush of fluid came and my pants were SOAKED! I pulled my shirt over my pants and hobbled to the restroom in the hallway while my students were using the restroom too. Long story short, I called Momma to bring me something and talked to our school nurse, who encouraged me to call my Doctor. I called my Doctor's office and they told me to go straight to the Labor and Delivery Triage at McLeod. I went inside to notify the office that I was leaving and gathered some of my belongings. By the time I got back to my car, Landon was in the parking lot. Momma left school to go pick up my mother-in-law and Landon and I headed to McLeod. When we arrived, the Dr. discovered that I had ruptured (water broke) and had dilated 3 cm. I landed myself a vacation in the hospital until Ryleigh would be born. I was in the hospital on bed rest for 10 days until Ryleigh was born. Shout out to my husband, Landon, he stayed with me EVERY night and even worked from the hospital one week. The days were long but I am grateful for the family and friends that came to visit, called/texted, and sent goodies. The nights were short, as the nurses were constantly in and out of my room checking vital signs, giving medicine, and putting the monitor on my belly to listen to Ryleigh's heart beat. The nurses and doctors were all wonderful during my stay.
Saturday night, September 7, 2019, I began having pains in my stomach...felt like cramps. The nurse placed the monitors on me to check for contractions and couldn't locate any. I convinced Momma that all was well and she went home from the hospital that night planning to go to church the following morning. I woke up on Sunday morning (9/8/19) and I felt fine so I called and told Momma she was fine to go to church. Shortly after, I sneezed/coughed and went to the restroom and upon returning to bed...the pain was back again. This time it was BAD, to the point I was begging Landon to hurry and find my nurse. Nurse came in and still no contractions were showing on monitor but she told Landon to call our Mommas because something was happening. Momma and Debbie rushed from Hartsvill
e to get to McLeod. Momma got a ticket on the way, bless her heart. The police officer had no compassion that she had her emergency lights on and told him her daughter who was 28 weeks pregnant was going into labor.
The pain started around 8:15 am Sunday morning. Dr. Nance checked me and I was a little over 5 cm dilated. The nurses began getting everything together to move me to the delivery room. Poor Landon had to pack up all of our belongings while I was being rushed to delivery. Within minutes, the pain was worse and I was screaming for an epidural. The anesthesiologist were there in no time, but I was already 8 to 9 cm dilated...which meant an epidural wouldn't help me before I delivered. When I began pushing...I pushed 6-7 times within about 10 minutes and at 9:28 am, Landon and I became a Daddy and Mommy to the most beautiful baby girl!

I delivered at 28 weeks and 1 day. Due to me going into premature labor, Ryleigh was born a preemie. We knew that she was most likely going to be born early, even though the Doctors' goal was for me to stay in the hospital for about 7 weeks and wait to deliver her around 34 weeks. Preemie babies have to stay in the NICU so once she was born, she was taken from the delivery room straight to the NICU and we were able to go and see her about 2 hours after I had delivered. In the picture at the top, you can see Ryleigh was on the vent because she was not breathing when she came out. She is now breathing on her own as she only stayed on the vent for a day or two and now has a nasal IV in her nose.
We are amazed at the progress that Ryleigh makes each day. The nurses and doctors in the NICU are wonderful. It helps give us a peace of mind knowing Ryleigh is okay when we aren't there. Please continue to keep our little miracle in prayer. We want her growing and healthy so she can come home! She is a true gift from God! So tiny but mighty!
